As of 11am today, I have found a place near my new job!
I’ll admit I was starting to freak out a bit there. I combed the Craigslist ads for about three days to come up with 3-4 potential leads on a temporary housing solution*. Then I drove the 450 mile trek to check them out and get an overall lay of the land. Of the four people on my list advertising a room available, I couldn’t get a hold of two of them.
I set up a couple walk-throughs via Craigslist that just didn’t work out:
Crazy Cat Lady is out. For one, cats, ew! Two: the apartment is the smallest two-bedroom apartment I’ve ever seen in my life. I could feel the severe lack of privacy in the air! Nice person though.
The second place I checked out (aka “tree-huggin’ hippy commune”) was okay but the room isn’t available until 3 days after my first day. They wanted at least a two-month commitment and I hate hippies. Lol. Kidding. More like im too old to be sharing a house w 3 other vegans. People, I mean
I drove back home down but not out, and without an “inked” place to stay. I read and replied to countless ads for three more days with no replies. All week when people would ask if I found a place and I say no and they freak out on my behalf, I’ve been saying “i have a friend who is never wrong, who said that universe wouldn’t do that to [me]“. (true story!)
It was not until yesterday that I got any reply, and finally this morning we were able to talk for a few minutes and I convinced her I’m an okay guy. So at least I have a place to stay for 6 weeks. Hopefully I’m not jinxing it. I have only seen bad pictures of the inside and Google Street View of the outside. I still need to find a permanent solution, and soon!
*(My current roommate said I could leave my stuff in the house as long as I wanna pay rent! Which is ironically, reassuring in a demented and sad way.)
