SPRING HILL – Deputies seized a combined 129 grams of marijuana packaged for sale on Monday and Tuesday.

The first arrest came as a deputy noticed a speeding black Mini Cooper fail to dim its lights as it traveled south on Shoal Line Boulevard, a report states.

The car was pulled over and the deputy said he smelled marijuana coming from the car. The driver, Darrin Foreman, 18, told the deputy the pot was in a white grocery bag on the back seat, a report states.

Foreman reportedly added that he was given the drug for free to sell. He was arrested on a charge of possession of more than 20 grams of marijuana. A deputy weighed the bag at 114 grams…”

Hartford Man, Apparently Fueled By Heroin, Crashes Into Hydrant – Courant.com

By LYNN DOAN The Hartford Courant

10:23 AM EDT, July 26, 2009

HARTFORD – A 34-year-old Hartford man, who appears to have been under the influence of heroin, barreled through a red light at Broad Street and Capitol Avenue this morning before knocking down a fire hydrant in front of The Hartford Courant headquarters and then crashing into a median, police said.

Witnesses told police that Noel Salaberrios of Hartford had run a red light while heading northbound on Broad Street, nearly hitting a pedestrian, and then lost control and crashed into a fire hydrant outside the Courant building. Salaberrios apparently swerved after hitting the fire hydrant and crashed into a median on Broad Street, where he was found by a police officer at about 9:30 a.m.

Police found Salaberrios unconscious, clutching two empty bags of heroin in a 2006 silver MINI Cooper. A needle was found on the console of the car.

Salaberrios was taken to Hartford Hospital. The Metropolitan District was at the scene this morning to retrieve the fire hydrant, which had flown into the bushes planted outside the Courant building.

Mag R/T vs. Mini Cooper Dinan S w/ mods

Posted by SherwinRocks under auto, blogs, bushfingermini, mini

Sometimes its entertaining to take a look from the outsiders’ view, as I found in this post off a Dodge Magnum Forum:

Mag R/T vs. Mini Cooper Dinan S w/ mods

So I’m commuting to work this morning and just went through the toll both on 92 West San Mateo Bridge. I hit the gas to merge as the lanes all consolidate and wind up behind a Mini Cooper Dinan S, it was black with black wheels, hood scoop, lowered and had some sort of lights mounted on the front bumper. I wasn’t really looking for a race just some one to get behind and dodge traffic. Then the Mini nails the gas and takes off. I say ok, I’ll stay behind this fool since I know he can’t go far due to traffic. I catch up quickly then we hit another gap in traffic, then he does something that just surprised me and pissed me off at the same time. He waves his hand at me like a girl, not out the window but from inside the cabin hand turned backward and just waves his fingers like he is making a fist and saying bye bye. So I hit it and catch up to him again. Oh, it was on at this point, we were starting at 60mph with traffic I see the break coming and I drop it to 3rd. This TURD actually does the sissy wave to me again. Then I kill the gas pedal and pass the guy on the right hand side. I wish I could have seen his face. We hit traffic again and I slow down and maintain speed with traffic. The mini goes to the right lane behind me and I think that may have been when he spotted the HEMI badge and gave up or maybe he was putting his make up on and had mascara in his eye, because he shed a tear after loosing to a wagon. He kept his distance after that. Not that I would have kept racing because once you get off the bridge traffic sucks and it’s just too dangerous. I LOVE MY HEMI. Can’t wait to get a diablo so I can really put it on someone. Does any one know how much power the mini cooper dinan S has, just curious?

The resulting discussion was an entertaining combination of ego tripping and actual, informative (but wrong) discourse. Then again, I’m easily entertained. :)

Represent!

Posted by SherwinRocks under Uncategorized

I finally picked up alumni plate frame…

i am somebody!

i am somebody!

If your show is getting a 6/10 rating from your viewers, then there is definitely something there and you are literally more than 1/2 way on your way to a “10″ program. Usually two or three issues within any show can be improved upon to convert that 6 into a “10″. As an example, I’ve analyzed Jason Calacanis‘ new video endeavor, “This Week in Startups” (#TWISt, thisweekinstartups.com).

iTunes describes This Week in Startups as, “an insider’s look at what’s happening in the tech industry”. I would expound on that to include “unscripted insights and tips from successful entrepreneurs“. Jason Calacanis, one of digital media’s most successful (and vocal) entrepreneurs, hosts this show, shares his opinions, thoughts, and suggestions, and brings in some of ITs most accomplished movers and shakers in this talk show format.

That alone makes this show worth watching. Alas, even Jason Calacanis can use a few pointers in an area which is not his expertise. (note: I do not consider myself an expert in this area either). Here are the first three areas I would address if I were the producer/director of This Week in Startups to bring it into “10″ range:

1) Fluctuating from one to two hours in length, TWISt is still too long for busy entrepreneurs, and occasionally goes off-track.
Solution: Create a time block schedule for your segments, tailor the content around it, and strive to stay within these constraints. Example:

This Week In Startups: Show Schedule:

a) Opening Graphics: (:30)
b) Intro – show preview (5:00)
c) Sponsor Break I (3:00)
d) Guest Interview (10:00)
e) Sponsor Break II (3:00)
f) Call Segment (three calls only) (15:00)
g) Sponsor Break III (3:00)
h) News/Dead Pool (10:00)
i) Thank the sponsors (5:00)
j) Closing Graphics: (:30)
Total Run Time: 55 minutes.

*Note: I didn’t put the “homework” segment in there, because he does not always assign home work for every episode.

2) Set design. “Black on black” is great for bandwidth but not for visual impact.
Solution: There is a lot of room for creativity without breaking the bank. Om Malik’s “Giga OM Show” was similar in content and concept to TWISt. However, the one thing I remember about his show is that his set was pretty impressive and unique for only being a colored wall, two sofas, and a coffee table. When your set stands out visually, it makes your show more unique and memorable, as well as for great screenshots/thumbnails. Alas, this is not my area of expertise, so “get thee a set designer!”.
3)  Overall “flow” of the program is choppy and amateurish.
Solution: Establish workflow and cues for seamless camera switching/floor direction. I know they’re only into their 8th episode (at the time of posting this), yet one thing that bugs me (and presumably at least 6 other viewers), is when Jason tells his Tricaster (camera switcher) operator, “get a shot of my screen”. The Producer/Director in me cringes every time on-air talent has to tell the crew what to do! In a live broadcast (did I mention it broadcasts live over uStream?) you can’t edit that stuff out later. Regardless if a show has a Director or not, Production meetings are a great time to establish cues that keep the flow of the show going smoothly. Example? Instead of Jason saying “get a shot of my screen”, he could establish that whenever he says “and on my screen we see…”, the operator knows that’s the cue to switch to the laptop (or else he’s fired). While a technically subtle change, to the viewer, that adds another layer of polish to the overall production.

So, there you have it- three unsolicited tips from an “armchair Director/Producer”. I don’t mind if you call me that. Just because some of us “Preditors” aren’t “doing it” (currently), doesn’t mean we don’t know what we’re talking about. When I’m working on a real gig I apply the same kinds of insights.

Why Not?

Posted by SherwinRocks under blogs, misc, searching4treasure

The idea of getting A.C.E. certified popped in my head a few months ago as a fleeting thought during a conversation with a friend of mine. Occasionally something reminds me that this is something I could probably do. Often while at the gym I see folks getting instruction by Personal Trainers and think “I could do that”. I’ve taken group exercise classes with instructors who, while they may know what they’re talking about, are terrible instructors (perhaps this is where my background in adult education could shine!). As much as I research Health & Fitness on a regular basis, I probably already know half the material. So, why not go for it?! perhaps the $150 for the class and $150 for the test, maybe? eek

Now, what to do with an ACE certification, I don’t know. The official ACE certificates are in the following areas:
- Personal Trainer
- Advanced Health + Fitness Specialist
- Lifestyle + Weight Management Consultant
- Group Fitness Instructor
- IAFF + IAFC Peer Fitness Trainer

I could probably do all but the last one, since I have no idea what that is. Must do more research.
