“Keys and Car Stolen as Mum and I Slept”

Posted by SherwinRocks under auto, blogs, mini

[Ed. note: I read stories like this one every day... For some reason I am compelled to post this one.]

By Gina Marden, echo-news.co.uk

“A YOUNG woman has been left devastated after burglars stole her car after breaking into her home.

Sherri Saunders, 20, saved up for three years for the 2002 Mini Cooper S which she only enjoyed for three weeks before it was taken.

The shop assistant and model had been saving since passing her driving test. Her dad, Paul, discovered the car was missing from their driveway when he returned from work.

Sherri, 20, of Pound Lane, Bowers Gifford, said: “I was in shock at first and then what happened started to kick in a couple of days later.”

Her dad Paul, 48, added: “I just feel destroyed for her. She’s been crying every day. It’s so unfair.”

Paul is offering £1,000 for information given to police which leads to the return of the car…”

[the part that makes me laugh, sort of]

“…Detectives are still looking for the Mini, which was grey with a black roof and black stripes on the bonnet which continue on to the bumper.”

Gee- that narrows it down!

And the Winner Is… (Re-Name The Show Contest)

Posted by SherwinRocks under auto, behindthevroom, video

And now, the moment we’ve all been waiting for!!!!

The entries were posted, the votes came in, and we are excited to announce a winner for the Motorkult TV “Re-Name The Show Contest”, just in time for a full month of engagements (see schedule below)!

It’s been an interesting process and experiment and I appreciate everyone’s participation. But enough about me! You want to know the results, so here they are, in Miss America style reverse order…

2nd runner up, with 17% of the votes is… “Mod Freak Showdown”, submitted by Dennis Perez of Fontana, California! (Wow- that sounds like a cool show!)…

1st runner-up (which took me about 20 years to figure out isa nice way of saying 2nd Place) with 33% of the votes is… “Modtime TV”, also a show I would watch, also submitted by… Dennis Perez of Fontana, California!

And the winning entry, coming in with 50% of the votes… submitted by Brian Cupples of Riverside, Ca…. [drumroll please]…

“Behind the Vroom”!

Brian wins the GRAND DADDY BIG OL’ BADASS prize package which includes:
* An exclusive “STAFF” t-shirt or polo (obviously, only available to staff, and Brian!)
* An “Associate Producer” Byline for the first 5 episodes, because that always looks good on paper;
* An entire episode based on his suggestion/request
* Free trinkets, swag or other merchandise for a full year!
* Unlimited bragging rights

And because I’m that way, we’ll be sending Dennis a t-shirt as well!

Each entry is a great name *and* interesting concept for a show and I appreciate the input from you- the fans. Who knows, we might even spin off a couple shows as a result of this contest! We’ve only got one week before a full schedule of engagements so exactly how to transition to the new moniker will be tricky! Look for us at the following Southern California events in August:

Aug 1-3 2008
MINI Takes The States @ Pasadena/Rose Bowl

Aug 9 2008
Hot Import Nights/Night Shift @ Pomona Fairplex

Aug 10 2008

And the nominees are..

We received a wealth of suggestions for what to re-name the show too. The Motorkult TV Staff pondered each one and narrowed down the list to something manageable. Then it was off to the patent office (virtually, of course). This took a few of the best suggestions off the list, and finally, off to check for domain names and other potential conflicts. This brought the list of contenders to what you see below. Now, the fun begins, as this is where you vote on your favorite!

How to vote:

1) Go to MotorkultTV.com
2) Click on “Vote Now”
3) Vote for your favorite!

It’s that easy!! And don’t forget to check back on July 28th, as we announce the winner, LIVE ON NATIONAL TELEVISION!*

Went to the doctor
To illustrate my pain
And he looks at the chart man
Couldn’t believe what he said…
I went to the boss man,
Tell him, “man, I need get paid”
Then he looks me in the eye man, he said,
“You screw around too much!”

Stop screwing around
You screw around to much…

I look to the girlfriend
I can tell that she’s in pain
I say “what’s the problem?”
I couldn’t believe what she said
Cuz I try so hard now,
To make this work so much
But she look me in the eye man, she said
“You screw around to much!”

Stop screwing around
You screw around to much

Got a note from my landlord
Got it just today.
He leave it on the door man
And then he run away!
I don’t know what his problem
He couldn’t see me face to face
The note said “You’re gone man,
Because you screw around too much!”

Stop screwing around
You screw around to much!

MTTS-LA: Totally Unofficial Hotel Recommendations

Posted by SherwinRocks under auto, blogs, mini

[Updated, Monday, July 14, 2008, 01:59 PM]

Since a big group of friends from out of town are coming up for MINI TAKES THE STATES-LOS ANGELES, I tried to get some reliable information about hotel accomodations in the Pasadena area. And, since I’m writing it down, I figure I may as well post it for others who may be in a similar situation of not having a clue where to stay aside from the Hilton.

Please note these are not my personal suggestions, as I have not been to any of these establishments. Think of it more as a “starting point” for your own research. :)

I will update this post as more information becomes available. Feel free to use the comment feature to add your own recommendations or “warnings”!

“The List” along with comments from people I trust to give me decent info (in no particular order):

Holiday Inn Express
full breakfasts, nice amenties. good rates

The Hilton – 168 S. Los Robles Avenue

The Westin – 191 N. Los Robles Avenue
(closest hotel to Rose Bowl) (California Pizza Kitchen and McCormick and Schmicks on the Property)

Courtyard by Marriott – 180 N. Fair Oaks Ave.*
(close to Rose Bowl) (near old town Pasadena, lots of shopping, restaurants nearby, very freeway close – can hop right on the 210)

The Sheraton - 303 East Cordova
near Paseo Colorado (large shopping complex)

The Langham - 1401 South Oak Knoll Avenue
(formerly The Ritz Carlton) very expensive!!

Saga Motor Hotel – 1633 E Colorado Blvd
a good value.

*While I’ve attempted to keep my own opinion out of this post, I will mention that this particular location was recommended by three different sources.

MINImus Omnibus: News at a Glance

Posted by SherwinRocks under auto, blogs, mini

It’s been kinda dead the last few days on Bushfinger MINI- certainly not due to a lack of MINI related news, but moreso a combination of 1) yours truly relocating to new abode (i forgot how much moving sucks), 2) a deluge of over-recycled news (mostly old news to MINIacs), and 3) quite frankly, all the other “big” MINI news, seems to be a tad bit over-covered lately.

photo found on motoringunderground.com

Here are a few recent bits I find somewhat interesting that may or may not already be posted on 100 other blogs:

LA Times writes: “American drivers should consider themselves lucky — try $9.85 a gallon in Oslo.”

MINI among Mercedes-Benz E320 and Tesla Roadster in “Fuel-Efficient Cars You Actually Want to Drive”
“With the current economic downturn, increasingly high fuel prices and a growing concern for the environment, many of today’s drivers are embracing fuel efficient or ‘green vehicles. We want to educate consumers on the few vehicles that are not only Earth-friendly, but also stylish and exhilarating to drive.”…”

More Clubman Reviews?? nah- I’ll skip it.
[If you must, here are about 1,150,000 at Google.com]

Truck overturns, Mini-Cooper stays on its wheels after collision
Santa Paula Police are investigating a two-vehicle collision that left a truck overturned – but a Mini-Cooper on its wheels – Friday evening, blocking a busy intersection…”

Clubmans Make Moms Hot

Burn ISO onto a DVD (using a Macintosh)?

Posted by SherwinRocks under ATGNAT, blogs, tech

Today I had a visitor who had an ISO file that he made from a DVD and saved onto an external Hard Drive. He wanted to burn it onto another DVD as a "DVD", as opposed to a data disc (I didn’t ask what was on it). In my lab the only workstations that burn DVDs are our Macintosh computers (used primarily for video editing, etc.)I’m pretty sure this was the first time anyone ever posed that question
